Seattle, Washington, is the birthplace of one of America’s brightest entrepreneurs.  Scott Painter has embraced innovation since the tender age of 14 when he started a car-detailing business with the intent of driving fancy cars that belonged to his customers.  He grew up near Sacramento, California where he graduated from high school.  His next steps was to enlist in the U.S. Army where he was trained to be a Spanish interrogator.  As a West Point cadet, he studied military strategy and systems engineering.  His aspirations returned him to his home state of California where he transferred to UC Berkeley where he majored in political economics.


Before completing his bachelor’s degree, Scott Painter decided to leave school to start his first startup company that would set the direction for his entire career.  AUTOAccess allowed used car buyers to investigate details about each car in the electronic database.  Other early ventures included IdeaLab, eCompanies, Advertise.com, PriceLock, CarsDirect.com, US Digital Gaming, Zag.com and Brighthouse.  Each venture has offered more insight into the Internet-based auto resale industry.  Ground-breaking approaches to each company has offered success that few people experience in the first 20 years of a career.  Experience with 37 companies and success in raising more than $1.25 billion in debt and equity capital has made Scott Painter a giant in his industry.

TrueCar, Inc. is Scott Painter’s latest venture.  With headquarters in Santa Monica, California, TrueCar provides pricing information and analysis for new and used car sales.  The price reports enable dealers and consumers to negotiate a fair deal based on cars that are equipped identically.  Transparency is an important factor when finding the best car deal.  Founded in 2005, TrueCar, Inc. has matched up more than 600,000 vehicles with buyers through the dealer partners.  TrueCar was ranked as one of the 5,000 fastest growing U.S. companies in 2010.
